These books are pure gold for me. I had long been a fan of Marion Zimmer Bradley and have read almost all of the books she ever wrote. Her death in 1999 was a great literary loss. I won't spoil the story by giving details. Suffice it to say that these books will take you into a different world. The characters are fully developed, and in the case of Lew Alton and Regis Hastur, build on prior works. It's not necessary to read those prior works to enjoy this series, in fact, it may help not to from the readers point of view of discovering the story from Margaret Alton's perspective (the main character for the first two books).

Tried and true MZB Darkover! This was a really enjoyable book about some of MZB's favorite characters. It also helps fill in some of the blanks left in some of the books that were written later, but are chronologically earlier. It leaves you wanting more at every turn of the (electronic) page.
Have the entire Darkover series in either hardcover or soft cover. I am now starting to get them in format as well. Since I have started getting some books in Audible format, it would be nice if these were also available in Audible.
I was so terribly thilled to hear that Marion was starting a new Generation of Darkover charactors..It began with Exiles Song and ends with Traitor's Son... TRULY Great.. all of them and if you like DARKOVER I highly recommend all of the.. this is about the third time I have purchased them... WORE the others out......=0) I hightly recommend these books..
I really freaked when Bradley Passed when Traitors Sun was still In hardcover.. Deborah Ross is really good. and I can only pray that after the Clingfire trilogy ( Co-Written with Bradley ) she will continue to write Darkover Books.... Marion Zimmer Bradley was truly great in that she encouraged and helped others to write about her worlds and her characters... She was instremental in helping not only Mercedes Lackey but many others to get a good foothold on the Genre... I truly hope we can look forward to more- MANY more DARKOVER BOOKS
Great progress but slow start with lots of reprises tho skillfully added. Still want to know about chieri. Perhaps in book 26.
This a continuation to the story of Mikhail Hastur and Marguerida Alton. It follows them and the tells the story of how they progressed together in the light of what is going on on Darkover. It is one of the most intriguing and inventive stories I have ever read. Great!
For most of my 50 years I have been reading about Darkover. I have thoroughly enjoyed every story I have read. This particular tale has managed to somehow bring many disparate elements into a finer focus while at the same time whetting my appetite for even more, which doesn't seem to be a problem because when I look onto the shelves there are still many more yet to be read.
There are still some punctuation and grammatical errors that seem to find their way into the electronic version version via the translation process but the end result is a very satisfying product.
I am a resident of Darkover whenever I get that chance. This is to say that Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover storytelling is addictive to certain people, and I am one. Happily and without reservation.
This book is about Lew Alton's daughter as an adult on Darkover. She grew up off world owing to her strange conception and an effort to keep her out of harm's way. The first book about her is Exile's Song, where she is returning to Darkover and dealing with that complicated transition.
In The Shadow Matrix, we learn more about the telepathic Alton Gift and Margaret's particular expression of it. This is a well developed Darkover tale with the complications and interesting surprises we expect from this author.
I am not going into much detail because many who are reading this have read other Darkover books. This is a five star addition to that lexicon. For those who are new to Marion Zimmer Bradley I will say that each book is written intentionally as a stand alone novel. This works in that you can start anywhere. And this book is as good a place as any. If you like it at all you will probably want to read another and you will learn about the culture of Darkover, which involves a technology based on psychic powers rather than infrastructure although there is somewhat of an infrastructure to support telepathic powers. It is fascinating to visit this culture and Bradley was ahead of her time in many ways. She is not the most detail conscious writer, which explains lack of the fifth star. But she is a ten star story teller!
